Reflection:

Overall, this task was something very new to me, through something that I use everyday ‘google maps’ I was able to create a personalized story, which I found very interesting and intriguing.  The software was fairly easy to use and very clear to navigate, the only downside to it is the editing process as I had to restart my work because the file URL didn’t embed into properly and I’ve lost my work and had to start over. I found odyssey sandbox very useful to use as it allowed me to  share my personal ‘dérive’ with the people.

Evaluation:

Most layout of the slide included a variety of pictures that correlated to the text in each slide, furthermore each slide was accompanied by a description of the place I visited and my personal reflections on the places. This gives an audience a perspective of my ideas giving me a chance to better express my feelings. Furthermore the layout can be criticized for being quite basic as it didn’t use different texts, due to the first time of me using it I had trouble sorting out how to edit text differently. The idea of going back to the same place as you started gives an idea of feedback to the journey.

Famous DirectorsImages cutupPilot

Reflection:

A very enjoyable task, once again giving us a lot of freedom of what to do. For my images I wanted to create something abstract, funny and encompassing. Therefore I created a cut up of famous director’s faces, combined a landscape images together and made a funny edit from a happy picture of plane pilots looking back at the camera. All using ideas from popular culture. Each image can be made sense of by looking, although the plane and directors have to be contextualized. All done using mask tools in Photoshop as well as the opacity tools for averaging.

Evaluation:

Overall the pictures can be seen to lack in context. In order to understand the pictures better the context must be given and a general online presence must be recognized, therefore the images mainly aiming at a younger audience. The landscaped image presents an abstract idea combining the yellow color scheme with blue, an idea of contradicting water with dry, as represented by the desert. The image of directors faces blends in to create a new face which blends in fairly well, choosing the black and white image was done to bring out the facial features and focus on the face layout than the look of the face itself.

Reflection:

Working in a pair me and Kai decided to do a podcast that lasts around 15 min. We decided to take out the Media studies kit and record it in wetherspoons, slightly unconventional but we felt like for some the sound of the background ‘chat’ could be relaxing. With that in mind we recorded just below 15 min, and talked about CMP1&2 discussing our main reflections.

For my logo my initial idea was to incorporate a maze, I took the best image I could find and vectorised it using illustrator, after that there was too much going on so I experimented with different paths from the maze and took out parts I didn’t need, I applied a mask to the ones I liked and created a logo. For my CV I went for a more unconventional route deciding to do it all in adobe spark.

Evaluation:

The podcast itself was long enough for a podcast although it lacked a lot of structure, there ended up being quite a lot of repetition, although the background chatter was quite loud, I felt like it could blend in better if recorded with more caution.

The logo looks quite complex, to a degree there could be said there is too much going on but the colors red, white and black complement each other well, giving the design a futuristic fe

Reflection:

I found this process quite interesting as it allowed me to capture the current ideas within the digital world. I really enjoyed most of the exhibitions we went to which gave me some context to write about in my storify page. Overall the Frequency festival let me learn a lot more about parts of the media world and how to share more academic ideas through different outlets online. The task felt very much like a way to advertise through the personal experience, as we got to at first hand experience, then reflect on our journey.

Evaluation:

Overall the storify page allows the audience to get to know the frequency festival in a short but to the point manner. The use of links proves useful, instead of posting everything on a storify page, I let the audience explore through links to the frequency page, as they can learn more through the direct source. Highlighting key words in sentences also brings emphasis on the place being shown, acting as a ‘selling’ point to go to that particular place.

The collaborative video production proved interesting in a way we can interact with film and frames.

CMP3 ‘REMIX’

Reflection:

A very enjoyable task that allowed me for creative freedom. Focusing on the drama behind Donald Trump and Marko Rubio, I decided to create a ‘fake trailer’ for a film that doesn’t exist. This was done for comedic purposes and to respond to the Reddit thread ‘Trumpcriticizestrump’. Using premier pro I used heavy editing in a style of YTP. I used both clips of Rubio and Trump to create a sense of interaction between the two although not real, it is made for the purposes of comedy. I also had a go at automatic motion tracking but it didn’t work very well therefore all the tracking in the video is manual, the voice in the video was created through Text to Speech.

Evaluation:

The video suggests its comedic structure through editing and the overused trailer music, originally from ‘Inception’. Also the video starts with in a world, another overused trailer gimmick. The use of text to speech proved useful as it represents the typical movie trailer narrator from the 90s, which tries to add to the comedy. The motion tracking could be done better but I feel like it adds to the comedic value by not being perfect. Use of slow motion to emphasise key moments add to the genre of the trailer.
